Video of House Floor Discussion on HB 1835

Sunday, April 29th Session

*** To skip to HB 1835 discussion you will need to look at the bottom of the "media" page.  There is a GREEN bar that moves across the screen as the video is playing.  Since the discussion did not occur until the end of the session you will need to move the GREEN bar by clicking on it and holding the mouse button down while moving the button to the right hand side of the screen.  Move the GREEN bar until the timer in the bottom right hand corner reads 3:41:39 (3 hours and 41 seconds into the session).  The session was 5 hours and 6 minutes long.  You may experience a pause in while the video is playing.  It is only the video trying to keep up with the sound, therefore, your computer may have to adjust (buffer).  Be patient, it will begin playing again.

A Message from Mike Brown, IHRBC Executive Director (April 30, 2007)

By now you've heard the good news.  This is a very good day for horsemen, horsewomen and friends of the racing and breeding industry in Indiana.  Congratulations are in order all around.  We have a lot to be thankful for, now and in the future.  Hats off to all who have worked so hard for so long to get this bill passed.

Special thanks to Larry Smallwood and Dwayne Rhule for being there day after day, for helping shape this legislation, for patiently explaining the industry to 150 legislators, and for being statesmen.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 A Special Thank you!

The Indiana Standardbred Association would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Indiana Horse Racing and Breeding Coalition (IHRBC) for their dedication and hard work to help the industry reach this milestone.  Their dedicated efforts have brought the Indiana Horse Racing Industry past a level in legislature that has been dreamed about for many years.

The coalition members consist of:  Larry Smallwood – IHRBC Chairman (Thoroughbred), Dwayne Rhule – Vice Chairman (Standardbred ISA Representative), Mike Brown – IHRBC Executive Director, Jeff Edwards – ISA President, Randy Klopp - HBPA President, Shirley Tresner – President QHRA – Indiana Chapter), Rick Moore – Hoosier Park General Manager, and Jon Schuster – Indiana Downs General Manager.

A special thank you to Larry Smallwood, Mike Brown, and Dwayne Rhule for their long hours and dedication to help the Standardbred horsemen and horsewomen of Indiana receive fair and equal treatment through the political process.  They are truly appreciated in all their efforts!  CONGRATULATIONS on job well done!!!!!!!

The ISA along with Mike Brown, IHRBC Executive Director, would like to especially thank Dwayne Rhule, former ISA Director and Vice Chairman of the IHRBC, in helping to shape the bill and explain the nuances of the industry to legislators.  Dwayne worked tirelessly and was very persistent in all of his efforts towards this legislation.  He was there everyday, and on the few days he wasn’t able to be there he was burning up the phone lines and emails.  Thank you Dwayne for your strong support!

***If you would like to express your appreciation to Dwayne Rhule, Larry Smallwood, and Mike Brown, you may mail, email, or fax your thoughts to the ISA Office and we will be glad to forward them on to these to hardworking gentlemen.

There were many other contributors affiliated with the IHRBC who worked very hard behind the scenes to help get the bill passed.  We are highly appreciative of their efforts as well!!!!

In addition, the ISA would like to thank all of the Standardbred horsemen and horsewomen who put forth great efforts in contacting their legislators.  Your efforts have paid off!  Thank you!!!!
