Sophomore pacers had the spotlight in Indiana Sires Stakes Thursday, August 20 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park, but one freshman pacer earned his own place in the spotlight with his first career win. Moe Pleasure had the most speed in the $10,000 two-year-old event.
Guided by trainer Matt Krueger, Moe Pleasure was ready for the start from post three and had just enough speed to find a good spot in the center of the field as Silkonthebeach and Doug Rideout were the first to reach the front. However, Authenticated and Joey Putnam were also in pursuit of the top spot with Felicitous Hanover and Atlee Bender in between horses. Authenticated was wide around the first turn before moving onto the top, setting the first fraction in :28.0. Felicitous Hanover was left on the outside and moved onto the top, becoming the third leader of the race before the half in :57.3.
One of the few fillies in the field, Sassy and Bold and Marcus Miller, were the first to move out, which prompted Moe Pleasure out of his resting place in the five hole. Mo Pleasure moved first over and made his way to the top of the stretch, ready to tackle Felicitous Hanover. The two were battling for the lead before midway into the stretch, Sassy and Bold joined them on the outside. Horses were three across the track as the wire got closer. In the end, Moe Pleasure was able to get the advantage at the end, pacing home in :26.4 for his first career win in 1:54.2. Sassy and Bold was a half length back in second on the outside as Authenticated moved inside for third.
Moe Pleasure was the favorite of the field, paying $5.40 for the win. The son of JK Endofanera is owned by Jeff Arnold. Christy Yoder Jr. bred and raised the gelding, who was purchased for $13,000 last fall at the Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale. It was the seventh career start for Moe Pleasure, who started off on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit before moving to the pari-mutuel ranks.
Moe Pleasure is the first foal from the Rockin Image mare Xenia Onatopp, a winner in 1:55.0 and a daughter of Sand Pleasure, former Indiana champion with a mark of 1:51.4 and more than $282,000 in earnings. She is equally impressive as a brood mare as a 100 percent producer with all nine foals racing and taking records. Included in her offspring are five six-figure winners including Firstup (1:50.3, $489,000) and Ms Quick Sand (1:50.1, $417,000).
In Indiana Sires Stakes action for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, Inverness Ave and Kevin Lambright turned in a big upset in their division, winning by three-quarters of a length over Dan D Man Can and Atlee Bender in a time of 1:52.3. The Helpisontheway gelding was a longshot, paying $46.60 for the win. He is owned by Ted Engel, Doug Shore, and Ernest Gaskin Stable. Ernie Gaskin trains the sophomore, who picked up his fourth win of 2026 and sixth overall. His victory in Indiana Sires Stakes action was a new lifetime mark.
