On Line is on time Sunday

On Line was right on time for a win Sunday, March 29 at Cumberland Raceway in Maine. The Indiana pacer, driven by Jason Bertolini, rallied home in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 2:02.2 in the $4,000 Track Master event.

The field was reduced to five starters and that is how they got away from the gate. Fellow Indiana sired Jet Wills took over the top spot from post one for Kevin Switzer Jr. and the rest of the field got in single file behind him. Fractions of :30.0, 1:02.0 and 1:32.1 were placed on the board before Maching Time and Nicholas Graffam moved to the outside in first over fashion. On Line followed him out around the final turn and was in a prime spot to advance on the far outside when the field turned for home.

In the stretch, Bertolini used a hand drive to encourage On Line to the wire, pacing home in :29.4 for the win over Maching Time. Terror Hall and Wallace Watson finished third.

On Line paid $15.40 for the win. The five-year-old son of Shadyshark Hanover is owned and trained by Bertolini. Stanley Miller bred the gelding, who began his career at Harrah’s Hoosier Park for trainer Henry Graber Jr. He moved to the East Coast as a three-year-old and eventually made his way to Maine, where Bertolini has had him for the past year. On Line was making his first start of 2026 and made it a winning effort. Overall, he now has five career wins with nearly $50,000 on his card. He took his career best time of 1:54.4 last year at Rosecroft Raceway.

Earlier in the program, Indiana pacer Vel Larry turned in a gate to wire effort to score a win in claiming action. Guided by McGwire Sowers, the seven-year-old son of He’s Gorgeous was a comfortable winner by nearly three lengths in 1:56.2. Rau Ru and Kevin Switzer Jr. finished second over Mornin Captain and Walter Case Jr. for third.

Vel Larry paid $7.80 for the win. The Alvin Schwartz-bred gelding is out of the former Indiana Sires Stakes contender EJ’s Copperstone, who earned a mark of 1:52.2 and made nearly $350,000. Vel Larry has been with his current connections since the fall of his three-year-old season. To date, he has 15 wins from 148 starts and nearly $100,000 on his card. His career best time of 1:53.2 was taken as a five-year-old at The Meadowlands. Christopher Dubois trains Vel Larry, who is one of 10 foals from EJ’s Copperstone, all of which have raced. The family includes Sweet Rockin Gia, a winner in 1:51.4 with more than $160,000 and last year’s ISFC contender Vel Wat A longshot, who took a mark of 1:55.0.
