Five trotters offered from Bontrager farm

The partnership of Aron and John Bontrager are bringing some quality trotting prospects to this year’s Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale. The consignment includes five yearlings, all trotters, with each one associated with proven winners in Indiana.

The Bontrager lineup kicks off with Hip No. 110, Cagey Lucie, a daughter of Helpisontheway. The filly is a half sister to the pair of winners Sure Did and Sure Do. Both of those trotters have earned six figures and if that wasn’t enough, the two-year-old filly has begun to shine. Queen Ada Jean is a winner in Indiana Sires stakes action this season. The second dam is also loaded with talent, including Combs Hanover (1:51.4, $419,000) and Cheers Hanover (1:53.2, $347,000). Cagey Lucie is heavily staked outside of Indiana, including the Breeders Crown, Hambletonian, and Yonkers Trot, to name a few.

First crop sires are also included in the Bontrager lineup with Hip No. 250, Quite Frankly, set for the sale. The son of Jujubee is the first foal of the Southwind Frank mare Lie in Wait, who took a mar of 1:54.3 during her racing career. She is a half sister to Hobbs (1:53.3, $600,000) and Full Rights (1:55.3, $382,000). Grand Circuit winners continue under the third dam, showing the depth of speed for the maternal side.

Quite Frankly has already been gelded and is ready to begin training with his new connections following the sale.

Another yearling that stands out in the Bontrager band is Hip No. 238, Sudden Thought, a filly by Rebuff. She is a half sister to Elhelpski, an Indiana Sires stakes winner in 1:54.1 with more than $272,000 on his card. The family also includes Kelseys Reason (1:56.3, $40,000) and freshman trotter Hidden Talent, who won eight races on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit this season as a two-year-old, including the $25,000 Governor’s Cup Championship at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The Bontrager consignment will be available during the Preview Day before the sale for inspection in Aisle 14. For more information on any of the yearlings being sold in their consignment, contact Aron Bontrager at (574) 642-4262.
