Indiana pacer is longshot winner

The beginning of the race had a lot different look than the end of the race for Brookview Glider. The Indiana pacer rallied from last to first to score his fifth win of the season as the third longest shot on the board.

Guided by Kevin Lambright, Brookview Glider was ready when the gate folded but opted to get away in fourth as Rock My Memory and John DeLong shot out to the early lead. Following the quarter in :26.3, King Tellit and Marcus Miller traded places with Rock My Memory and led the field to the half in :55.2. Dismantle and Kyle Wilfong began the outer flow as Brookview Glider opted to stay in heading into the final turn.

Soon, Brookview Glider found himself shuffled to last as the field turned for home. King Tellit was still holding onto the lead as horses fanned out across the track. Brookview Glider was still last well into the stretch. Lambright went to work on the gelding and midway through the stretch, he began making up ground on the leaders. It took the entire length of the stretch, but he got the job done, pacing home in :25.4 to score the win by three-quarters of a length over King Tellit. Shadyshark Ten and Jordan Ross finished third in the mile timed in 1:51.2.

Brookview Glider paid $95.80 for the win. The sophomore son of Rockin Image is owned by Brian Code, James Nellinger, and Ernie Gaskin Stable. He was purchased by the partnership out of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale for $23,000. He is the first foal of the Captaintreacherous mare Significant Other, who had a recorded time of 1:53.4 before retiring to the brood mare ranks. She is a half sister to the tough Bettor Again, a winner of more than $362,000 with a mark of 1:48.2 and Moder Gesture, a winner in 1:49.0 with more than $300,000 on his card.

Brookview Glider went without a win last year at two but has turned his form around this year. He has been on the board 12 of 21 starts and took his career best time of 1:51.0 in July. He is now approaching $100,000 in career earnings for his connections.

Indiana Sires Stakes then took over the program, including a dead heat performance from two JK Endofanera fillies in their $129,000 Sires Stakes event. Fitterjake and Anthony Miller took over at the head of the lane as Era Dominance and Joey Putnam closed in late in the stretch. The two fillies could not be separated at the wire in a time of 1:50.1. They finished two and one-half lengths ahead of Owleo’s Pride and Trace Tetrick in third.

Era Dominance was the longer shot of the two, paying $5.20 to win while Fitterjake, the race favorite, paid $2.80. Aaron Stutzman trains Fitterjake while Michael Hitchcock trains Era Dominance. Fitterjake is owned by James Miller of Kentucky while Era Dominance is owned by William Hartt of Maine.

Full coverage of Indiana Sires Stakes action Friday will be covered by the Harrah’s Hoosier Park Race Marketing team.
