Steel Cowboy and Travis Seekman were the lone winners Saturday, August 1 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. With inclement weather setting in on Central Indiana, the remainder of the card was canceled.
Steel Cowboy began from post one over the sloppy track in the $12,500 conditioned pace. He left the gate with authority and was challenged by Winnercircleseeker and Trace Tetrick, who took over before the quarter in :27.0. Steel Cowboy continued to track Winnercircleseeker past the half in :56.2 before the tempo picked up around the final turn with Aye Aye Capt Russ and LeWayne Miller leading the outside charge.
In the stretch, Steel Cowboy had preserved his speed for the final quarter and was able to sneak out, pacing home in :26.2 for the win by a neck over Sleazy Captain and Kyle Husted, who closed in for second. Brigade and Brandon Bates also closed quickly to pick up third.
Steel Cowboy paid $23.80 for the win. The six-year-old Bettor’s Delight gelding is owned by Jose Cervantes and trained by Mark P’Pool. Stephen Dey III bred and raised the New Jersey bred.
Steel Cowboy earned his third win of 2026. He picked up a new lifetime mark earlier in July in 1:50.2. He began his career in Canada and didn’t start until he was three, winning only one race. He only started once, both as a four and five-year-old before coming back to the track this year with success. He was acquired by Cervantes last fall.
Earlier in the day four qualifiers were held at Harrah’s Hoosier Park, including a pair of two-year-olds. Captains Trio and Trace Tetrick rallied gate to wire in the pacing event to score an open length win in 1:59.1, a final quarter in :28.4. Trained by Ben Swartz, the Capt Midnight freshman is owned by Jacob and Andy Schwartz. The gelding is a home bred, raised by Andy Schwartz.
The freshman trotting event was won by Misskellysbaby and Kiwon Waldron. The Helpisontheway freshman got away third and was able to move up in the lane, taking over late in the race to win in 2:03.4. Betterhelp and LeWayne Miller finished second over No Judgement here and Trace Tetrick.
Misskellysbaby is owned by Ernest Gaskin Stable, Doug Shore, and Robert Rubin. Gaskin trains the filly, who was bred and raised by Kristin Wagler.
Harrah’s Hoosier Park is back in action Tuesday, August 4 with a first post time of 5:30 p.m. The Indiana Sired Fair Circuit (ISFC) is back in action at the Converse Fairgrounds Monday, August 3. Racing begins at 3 p.m.
