It was a rain soaked night at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Friday, May 22 but the tote board was lit up early in the card with a pair of longshots, including Winning Vibes and Trace Tetrick. The pair trotted home in :27.4 to score the win in the $13,000 conditioned claiming event for the win in 1:56.4.
Winning Vibes began from post seven at odds of 28-1 and Tetrick moved the trotter out to the lead. Several others to his inside also showed interest in the front, but Winning Vibes didn’t back down, securing the top spot heading into the first turn. Bourbon Courage and Marcus Miller were close behind and decided to move onto the lead after the first quarter in :28.2. From there, Winning Vibes was chill in the two hole as Bourbon Courage passed by the half in :58.3. Fifty To Win and Jordan Ross moved up on the outside in first over fashion, covering Winning Vibes up along the rail.
As the field turned for home, there was just enough room between horses for Winning Vibes to sneak out. Bourbon Courage was not giving in and fended off both Winning Vibes and Fifty to Win. As the finish line neared, Winning Vibes was able to hit another gear and get by Bourbon Courage for the win by a neck. Fifty to Win finished a length back in third.
Winning Vibes paid $58.00 for the win. The four-year-old Don’t Let’Em is owned by Rob ert Reeser, Lefebvre Racing, and Hen-Shaut Stable. Reeser trains the gelding, who was bred by Aron Bontrager.
Winning Vibes now has two wins this year in 10 starts for the Reeser barn. Overall, he has six wins and more than $68,000 in earnings. His career best time of 1:55.3 was taken last year at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Winning Vibes was a $17,500 purchase from the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale by the Reesers. He is out of the tough race mare Classic Filly, who was a six figure winner during her career. The second dam includes several top racehorses on the Grand Circuit, including Yentls Iceman (1:54.3, $443,000) and Amesbury (1:56.0, ($366,000).
Later in the card on Friday was the featured $22,000 Open Pace, including some top notch pacers in the Midwest. Coach Stefanos and Marcus Miller closed with a perfectly timed final quarter to win by a neck over Crooked Smile and Jordan Ross in 1:51.0. Im Skinnydipin N and Trace Tetrick finished third.
Coach Stefanos is owned by Ken Duffy, D & M Trading II, and John Stefanos. Erv Miller trains the product of Victory Hill Farm. The Tellitlikeitis six-year-old has 21 career wins and more than $1.3 million on his card. His career best time of 1:47.2 was taken last year at The Meadowlands.
