Cowboy Show and John DeLong put on a show Friday, August 21 in the $16,000 Indiana Sires Stakes Eligible event for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers. The duo covered the one mile distance in a time of 1:50.0, a new lifetime mark for the sophomore.

Cowboy Show began from post three and had a little early speed, but Brookview Glider and Brandon Bates had more. They sprinted to the top spot from the inside of Cowboy Show while Rock My Memory and Jordan Ross showed good early speed from the outside. DeLong encouraged Cowboy Show to join them heading past the grandstand the first time, but was hung on the outside as Rock My Memory took over the top spot before the quarter in :26.2. Cowboy Show continued to pursue the leaders and was the third leader of the race down the backstretch before passing by the half in :54.3.

Around the final turn, Cowboy Show was still in control as Bluebird Capt PJ and Trace Tetrick had created the outer flow, which caused Brookview Glider to move to the outside. DeLong popped the ear plugs on Cowboy Show at the head of the lane, and the sophomore pacer responded, holding his own all the way to the wire for the win by two and one-half lengths. Brookview Glider finished two lengths ahead of Bluebird Capt PJ who was third.

Cowboy Show was the favorite of the field, paying $4.20 for the win. The gelding from the first crop of Best in Show is owned and trained by Kimberly Roth. It was the gelding’s third win in 13 starts this season and fifth overall. He now has more than $64,000 on his card. He sold under the name JN Beachshow at the Midwest Classic Sale in Shipshewana in the yearling portion for $13,000. He was one of 36 sold at public auction from the first crop of Best of Show and was the sixth highest price through the sales ring.

Another impressive winner on the night was Lahaina Memory and Marcus Miller in the $16,000 Indiana Sires Stakes Eligible event for two-year-old pacing colts. The JK Endofanera gelding sat in mid pack before charging down the lane, picking up the win by a neck over Ponda One and Trace Tetrick in 1:52.3, using a final panel of :26.4 to get the job done. Straighttemperment and Jordan Ross finished third.

In a unique twist, Lahaina Memory paid $53.20 for the win, rarely seen from the tough Erv Miller barn. He is owned by Ervin Miller Stable, Lava Java Stable, Jerry Graham, and Engel Stable of Illinois. Engel Stable and Tony Willinger bred the gelding, who is out of their mare Odds On Algorithm, a winner in 1:51.4 with nearly $100,000 on her card. He was purchased by Miller as agent out of the Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale last fall for $28,000 out of the Lyndar Stables consignment. He is the first foal out of Odds on Algorithm and has a yearling full brother named Calculated End.

Indiana Sires Stakes action continued on the Friday card. Full coverage of the races will b e provided by the race marketing team at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
