Action for the second series of the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit (ISFC) was back on track Saturday, September 13 at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Ind. A total of 16 races were on tap with M M’s Eddie and Kevin Detweiler turning in the quickest mile of the day.
M M’s Eddie began from post three and had to fight for the lead early on. Whiskey Neat and DeShawn Horton used their inside post to grab the top spot out of the gate, leaving M M’s Eddie on the outside through the first turn and to the quarter in :29.1. M M’s Eddie finally cleared to the front and was well in command at the half in :58.3. From There, Rockinanera and Clint Coy remained on the outside heading to the three-quarters and moved up to challenge M M’s Eddie in the final turn.
At the head of the lane, M M’s Eddie was still leading the way and paced home in :28.1 to score the win over Whiskey Neat, who was tracking his every move, finishing one and one-half lengths back at the wire in second. Rockinanera finished third in the mile timed in 1:58.0.
M M’s Eddie is owned by Alvin Miller and Jake Schwartz. Mike Hollenback trains the sophomore son of Check Six. Mervin Miller, who is best known as the breeder of the superstar mare M-M’s Dream, is the breeder on M M’s Eddie, who carries his farm name in his name.
It was the first win of the year for M M’s Eddie in eight starts. However, his career best time of 1:54.1 was taken last year as a two-year-old at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. He now has more than $17,000 on his card. He was an $11,000 purchase from the Midwest Classic Mixed Sale as a yearling with integrity Stables acting as agent for Miller.
For Detweiler, it was one of six wins on the program. His day began with a win in the two-year-old pacing colt and gelding division as Allcaptain moved to the front after the half and kept the rest of the field at his heels to win by one length in 2:04.0. Velmrcanyousmokem and Doug Rideout finished second over Special Rocker and Mike Peterson for third.
Allcaptain is owned by Roger Bowlin and trained by Lusion Bowlin. Joseph Miller bred the freshman son of Capt Midnight, who earned his first career win in the effort. Allcaptain is a recent purchase by Bowlin and was making his fourth start for his new connections.
The second series of the ISFC is back in action at the Harrison County Fairgrounds next Saturday. The finals are slated for Saturday, October 3 at the Converse Fairgrounds.
