Engle yearlings offered in Michigan
Longtime owner-breeder Ed Engle says it best. “This family is a good investment.” Year after year, the family that traces back to Do Me Good keeps producing winners for the horsemen and women that secure the foals from that maternal line. This year, buyers will have to head north to the Winner’s Circle Speed Sale, set for Thursday, October 8 at the Michigan State University Sales Pavilion in East Lansing, Michigan. A total of 64 entries are in this year’s event which begins at Noon.
Sale goers will have to wait a while on Good to Great, a half sister to this year’s Fox Stake Winner Another Mile Again. The filly by Captain Victorious joins siblings Shady Caroline (1:50.2, $400,000), Good Rockin (1:48.4, $350,000) and this year’s Indiana Sires Stakes winner Another Mile Again, who has more than $100,000 on his card and has not been worse than third in seven starts this season. His quickest win was at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in 1:51.4. He is part of the Burke Brigade.
Good to Great sells as Hip No. 50. She is heavily staked both in Michigan and on the Grand Circuit. Her dam, former Michigan Horse of the Year Do Me Good, is so successful she is the only dam listed on the entry page for Good to Great.
Joining Good to Great in the Winner’s Circle Speed Sale is Honorific, a son of Captain Victorious. The Michigan bred colt is the second foal of the mare Honor’s Image, who has a winner with her only other foal. The first colt from the Rockin Image mare sells as Hip No. 56.
The first Engle bred yearling to sell in the sale is Kick Butt, listed as Hip No. 3. The Bondi Hanover colt is the 10th foal from the mare, Do Me First, who has produced numerous winners, including Kak’s Shark Attack, a winner in 1:51 with more than $278,000. The Indiana sired mare has numerous stakes wins to her credit. The family also includes Firstofanera (1:51.1, $151,000).
