Driver Kevin Detweiler put a lot of time in on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit (ISFC) last summer, perfecting his driving skills. He graduated to the pari-mutuel ranks this spring and earned his first pari-mutuel driving victory Wednesday, May 27 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park behind trotter HC Caviar.
Starting from post two, HC Caviar left the gate with some speed but was quickly overtaken by Help or Hinder and Doug Rideout before the quarter in :28.2. The field was gapping a lot off the leader down the backstretch before HC Caviar closed the gap and went around Help or Hinder at the half in :58.1 to take control of the front end. The You Know You Do trotter kept an even tempo around the final turn as Bills in Jail and Trace Tetrick moved up to challenge on the outside.
In the stretch, Bills in Jail got a slight advantage over HC Caviar but the trotter with the short tail dug back in and retook the lead before pulling away to a two-length advantage over Bills in Jail. Disobedient and Rick Plano sprinted home to finish third. The time of the mile was 1:56.0.
HC Caviar was a longshot in the race, paying $36.20 for the win. The sophomore gelding is trained by Leander Schwartz and owned by Black and White Stable. Homestead Acres bred and raised the gelding, who earned his first career win after four starts this year combined with seven last season, mainly on the Indiana Sired Fair Circuit.
For Detweiler, it was his 15th start as a pari-mutuel driver and only his fourth start at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. After obtaining his P license in April, he traveled to Northfield Park and drove in 11 races before returning to Indiana. He drove in 237 races last year on the ISFC, winning 35 of them. Last year was the first year driving for the Milroy, Indiana native who just turned 18 earlier in May.
Another longshot winner on the Wednesday card was Got The Grins and Cristian Pacheco. The duo rallied from mid pack in the second half of the race and timed the wire just right to win in 1:53.1, a final quarter in :27.2. Incredible Luck and Jordan Ross finished second over Dandy’s Mmm and Kyle Wilfong.
Got the Grins paid $20.60 for the win. The Rockin Image four-year-old mare is owned by Cody Eustis and trained by Charles Eustis III. Ellis Bryant bred the mare, who earned her first win of 2026 and recorded a new lifetime mark in the process.
