Major Attribute and Driver Travis Seekman turned in a major upset Friday, May 29 in the $7,000 conditioned pace at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. The duo rallied home in :26.3 to score the win by a neck in a three-way photo at the wire.
Major Attribute began from post five and found his way to the inside path, getting away in sixth as American Classic and Marcus Miller made their way to the lead, posting the first quarter in :26.3. Aye Aye Capt Russ and Kevin Lambright were first over on the outside at the half in :55.2 and remained on the outside around the final turn.
In the stretch, American Classic was able to get the edge on Aye Aye Capt Russ, but it was the late closers that caused the most noise in the lane. Joker Rockwell scooted up the center of the track for Jordan Ross to close in while This Kit Rocks and Atlee Bender held their ground on the inside. Major Attribute was widest of all and timed the wire just right for the win over American Classic. Joker Rockwell finished third between horses.
Major Attribute paid $22.40 for the win. The 11 year old Fred and Ginger gelding is owned by Michael Letton and is a home bred, raised by Robert and Michael Letton. Desirae Seekman trains the old timer, who scored his first win of the year. Overall, he has 28 starts and more than $250,000 in earnings. His career best time of 1:50.2 was taken as an eight-year-old at Harrah’s Hoosier Park. He has been with the Letton family his entire career.
The feature of the night was the $22,000 Open Pace with another slight upset winner as Golden Bay N and Trace Tetrick turned in a gate to wire effort, fending off M-M’s Bud and John DeLong at the wire for the win in 1:49.4. Fox Valley Kodiak and Kyle Wilfong rounded out the trifecta.
Golden Bay N paid $8.20 for the win. The seven-year-old son of Downbytheseaside is owned by Castaldo Racing Stable and TG Stable. The New Zealand born gelding is trained by Tyler George. It was the second win of the season for the gelding, who earned 14 wins in 26 starts last season for the George barn. His career best time of 1:48.2 was taken last year.
